It’s about ISO A3 so I had to scan it 3 times and stitch the images together. This is a lot easier than it used to be with the “photomerge” automation feature in Photoshop.

The yellows came out a little too strong in the scan, it’s a lot more subtle in reality.

It was built between 1698-1702 by Constantin Brâncoveanu in what is called the Romanian Renaissance style or Brâncovenesc style, a combination of Venetian and Ottoman elements. The palace bears the name of the widow of the Romanian boyar Mogoş, who owned the land it was built on. The Palace was to a large extent rebuilt in the 1920s by Marthe Bibesco.

After it was painted I stroke the edges with a nib pen and manuscript drawing ink. I’d love to experiment with putting the ink in first but I’m having a hard time finding waterproof ink.

What better way to test it than in a Sumi-e style painting.

The goat hairs react differently than the brushes I’m used to but it gets some cool effects and packs a lot of color. I think I like it. Now I have to see how it can integrate in my workflow.

In Rome all trees are evergreens but I wanted to experiment with fall colors so… I did.  You can see the true colors in this photo.

For the staue itself I haven’t decided yet if  I’ll color the it or leave just the ink outlines.
